A man is due to front court today charged over the alleged attempted rape and robbery of a teenage girl in Southport.
The 28-year-old man is accused of attempting to sexually assault the 19-year-old outside a university accommodation on Parklands Drive around 11pm on Friday.
He’s then accused of stealing the young woman’s personal property before fleeing the scene.
The matter was reported to police and the teen was taken to hospital where she received medical treatment and professional support.
A crime scene was declared in the vicinity of a building near Science Road and Multimedia Lane.
Following investigations, detectives executed a search warrant at a Southport address later that day, where a 28-year-old Southport man was taken into custody.
The man has been charged with one count each of attempted rape, robbery with violence and possessing dangerous drugs (methylamphetamine).
He was remanded in custody to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on 25 May.
