Man charged after fire rips through Canungra home in alleged arson attack

A man has been charged over an alleged arson attack at a home in Canungra.

Police allege the 34-year-old man deliberately set fire to a mattress at a home on Riverbend Drive around 4pm on Wednesday before fleeing the scene.

The blaze quickly spread throughout the rest of the property, completely destroying the home, but thankfully no one else was home at the time.

The man was tracked down and arrested by police a short time later on Canungra Street.

He’s been charged with one count of arson (domestic violence offence) and will appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court today.
