Gold Coast holidaymakers now have a brand new, direct connection to paradise.
In a historic milestone for local aviation, Fiji Airways will officially launch its first-ever direct service to the Gold Coast later this morning, with the inaugural flight from Nadi scheduled to touch down at Coolangatta Airport at 11.30am.
The new route is set to be a major win for holidaymakers, instantly connecting the Gold Coast to Fiji’s 333 islands.
Operating three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, the short 3.5-hour flight will be serviced by the modern Boeing 737 MAX 8.
It’s set to add over 53,000 seats to the local market every year, giving locals an effortless, family-friendly getaway to Fiji’s famous surf breaks and relaxed island lifestyle.
On top of a quick tropical escape, the new route will also double as a massive gateway to North America.
For the first time, Gold Coast travelers will be able to unlock one-stop connections through Nadi to major global hubs like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Honolulu.
Supported by the Queensland Government and Experience Gold Coast through the Connecting Queensland Fund, tourism leaders are already celebrating the massive economic boost the connection is expected to bring to the sunshine state.
Queensland is the home of the holiday, and direct flights from Nadi to the Gold Coast will make it easier for more visitors to experience this world-class destination,” Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said.
Fiji Airways CEO Paul Scurrah added that forward bookings have already been hot, proving that Gold Coasters are more than ready to swap the glitterstrip for the South Pacific sunshine.
“The Gold Coast shares Fiji’s warmth, energy and spirit of adventure,” Mr Scurrah said.
“Since announcing this route, demand has been exceptional with strong forward bookings and today that excitement finally becomes a reality,” he said.
“We are delighted to bring our world-class hospitality to every Gold Coaster who steps on board, and as we pursue our vision to become the world’s happiest airline, this new connection is another proud step in that journey”.
