One of the country’s worst paedophiles will be extradited from Queensland to New South Wales to stand trial on a raft of additional charges.

Gold Coast man Ashley Paul Griffith is currently serving life in jail in Queensland after admitting to offences against 69 girls at early learning centres in Brisbane and Italy over two decades.

The former childcare worker is now facing an additional 202 charges relating to children including sexual intercourse with child under the age of 10 years, indecent assault of a person under 16, and producing child abuse material.

Queensland Attorney General Deb Frecklington said she had been working with her New South Wales counterpart on this for several months.

“The reason why I was so determined to support that application was because victims deserve their time in court and that’s what they will now get in New South Wales,” Ms Frecklington told parliament on Tuesday.

NSW Attorney-General Michael Daley also stating that Griffith “will now be brought to NSW to face justice in this state”.

“I sought Ashley Griffith’s transfer on behalf of the people of NSW and am grateful for the cooperation of the Queensland Attorney General in this matter,” he said.

The application for Griffith’s extradition was made by the NSW attorney-general in July and was accepted by a Brisbane magistrate on Tuesday morning.

No date has been set for his extradition at this stage.
