Charges have been laid over a sickening attack on a 16-year-old boy at a gathering in Varsity Lakes.

Police were called to Rina Court on Saturday 26 September, following reports of a large street disturbance.

The Currumbin boy had been attacked, with his father previously alleging to the media his son was brutally beaten, kicked, and stomped on by a gang over a stolen vape.

The assault was captured on video and circulated on social media, showing the boy cowering on the ground before two other boys pull him to his feet and lead him away.

The boy was transported to Robina Hospital by his mother in a stable condition.

He attended Robina Police Station two days later and made a formal complaint.

Following a lengthy investigation, police yesterday arrested and charged an 18-year-old Nerang man with one count each of assaults occasioning bodily harm in company and affray in public place whilst adversely affected by intoxicating substance.
