A major manhunt is underway for a group of thieves who smashed their way into a Subway store on the northern Gold Coast, leaving a trail of destruction.

The brazen trio allegedly used an angle grinder to smash through the front gates of the Stapylton business around 2am this morning.

Once they were in, they then used crowbars to smash the glass front doors of the fast-food restaurant before ransacking the store.

It’s understood the thieves were only inside the restaurant for about a minute before they fled with an empty till.

The owner of the store has since slammed the actions of those involved, with the early morning violence understood to have left him with a damage bill in the thousands.

“I’ve got staff now today who are not going to have a shift, because lord knows how long it’s going to take us to actually get this back to a state where we can open and trade,” owner Mark Noe told Channel Nine’s Today Show.

“You guys who do this, honestly brain dead… get a job, have a life”.
