Sea World crews have conducted another delicate whale rescue off the Gold Coast.
Fishermen contacted the Sea World Foundation on Thursday after the humpback whale became stuck in their commercial fishing equipment including ropes and spanner crab pots.
The team raced to the site, about 5 miles off the coast of Surfers Paradise, to commence the operation.
“Using specialised equipment including purpose-built knives, the team managed to strategically cut away at the entanglement and remove the rope with 15 crab pots from the whale before monitoring it to swim off on its northern migration,” Sea World confirmed in a statement.
“This is the fourth whale rescue operation the Sea World Foundation have conducted for the 2026 migration season and will remain on standby with another four known whales traveling with an entanglement.”
