The Gold Coast is continuing to cement its status as the “Hollywood of Australia” with another major movie production locked in for the glitter strip.
The latest instalment in the Godzilla x Kong franchise has started production at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford.
The film, which is being directed by Aussie filmmaker Grant Sputore (I Am Mother), features a star-studded cast including Sam Neill, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Dan Stevens.
The latest blockbuster, which is yet to be officially titled, follows the successful Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire film.
It was also filmed on the Gold Coast in 2022 before being released in 2024, where it became the highest grossing Godzilla film ever.
The latest epic film in the ever-popular ‘Monsterverse’ will feature several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans, Godzilla and Kong, as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.
The latest sequel is being hailed as a “major economic win” for the city, with the project tipped to inject $93 million into the local economy and create more than 400 local cast and crew jobs.
“Queensland has built an international reputation as a production paradise, which is solidified by the number of blockbuster films currently using our great state as a big screen backdrop,” Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek said.
“During filming, Legendary Pictures will employ more than 400 cast and crew and contribute an estimated $93 million to the local economy.
“These productions provide our highly sought-after crews with a steady pipeline of projects and create opportunities for the next generation to hone their skills.”
The film is scheduled to hit theaters in March, 2027.
