Police have charged a second person in relation to the death of a newborn baby in Logan in 2024.
A 24-year-old Gold Coast woman, understood to be the infant’s mother, was arrested by Detectives from the Logan Child Protection and Investigation Unit in Southport on Wednesday.
The woman was charged with one count of cruelty to children under 16 years (Domestic violence offence).
It comes just days after the baby’s 25-year-old father was charged with murder following the death of the 3-week-old boy, who passed away in hospital in July 2024.
“Detectives undertook an extensive and protracted investigation and recently received results from comprehensive medical examinations, which indicate the child sustained internal injuries” Queensland Police said.
The woman is due to front Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 4.
Investigations are ongoing.
