The annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has been hailed as a massive economic contributor to the Gold Coast.

New research from Griffith University has found that last year’s event pumped almost half a billion dollars into the local economy.

According to the report, the total sum that came into the Gold Coast as a direct result of the boat show in 2021 was $471.46 million, up from $336.27 million in 2019.

The official numbers for 2022 are yet to be revealed, however, organisers believe they will trump last year’s figures.

Event Marketing Manager Kara Roberts has told myGC it’s a really significant impact.

“Majority of that comes from commercial sales, but the rest of it comes from direct tourism impact for the destination which is a fantastic result,” Ms Roberts said.

She revealed the location of the event is certainly a massive driver for visitation.

“Sanctuary Cove is known around the world, it’s a lifestyle destination and people love that it’s not just about the boats,” Ms Roberts said.

“It’s a village atmosphere, with a hotel, restaurants, shopping and everything a visitor could want”.

The findings come as applications open for exhibitors for next year’s show.

Mulpha Events General Manager Johan Hasser said they are expecting to exceed the previous year’s exhibitor numbers.

“With the success of the 2022 event, we have seen consistent enquiry from the industry eager to secure their space for 2023,” Mr Hasser said.

The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show will take place from May 25-28.
