Gold Coasters are being warned there could be some smoke around parts of the Gold Coast today.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife is conducting a planned burn in Nerang National Park on Wednesday 2 September.

As a result of the planned burn, smoke may be seen in nearby areas.

Authorities have confirmed that following the burn, the site and its surrounds will be closed until deemed safe.

“If visiting Nerang National Park, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from QPWS Rangers and never enter closed areas,” QPWS said.

Motorists in the area are also being urged to avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.

Residents are being urged to close all windows and doors, while those affected by smoke are being urged to keep respiratory medication close by.
