The State Government has confirmed it’s looking at possibly calling in the proposed Reedy Creek Quarry following serious concerns from residents and local leaders.
The proposed call-in follows a request last week from both Gold Coast Council and local State MPs Ros Bates, Laura Gerber, and Hermann Vorster to the Deputy Premier.
The trio raised concerns about the application, including the integrity of the submission period.
It also comes after hundreds of residents staged a passionate rally last weekend, objecting to the establishment of the quarry on the state-mapped Key Resource Area at Reedy Creek, with many fearing the project would wreck their hinterland lifestyle.

Under the proposed call-in, Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie will write to the applicant Boral, along with Gold Coast City Council, asking for their feedback on whether the project should be called in.
Bleijie said the move is all about restoring confidence that community concerns were fully understood and properly considered.
“Queenslanders deserve transparency and confidence in planning decisions and residents want to be taken seriously when projects of this magnitude are proposed near their homes,” Deputy Premier Bleijie said.
“By initiating this proposed call in, we’re taking the time to test whether the right questions have been asked, the right information has been considered, and whether the community has had a genuine opportunity to be heard.”

Submissions will be reviewed before a final decision is made on whether to call in the application.
