LATEST @ March 12 | Some good news for those who rely on public transport to get around, with most services resuming as normal today.

G:Link has confirmed that trams will operate from Helensvale to Broadbeach South stations after systemwide technical issues associated with the recent cyclone were resolved.

Trams between Helensvale and Gold Coast University Hospital stations recommenced yesterday, and the rest of the system will restart today.

“Trams will be running about every seven minutes today,” GoldlinQ CEO Phil Mumford said.

“There has been a strong focus on ensuring trams were available as soon as possible to get passengers where they need to go.

“We thank everyone who was involved in quickly re-establishing this vital Gold Coast public transport mode”.

Translink has also confirmed bus and trains will mostly return to normal, with some diversions and cancellations depending on local conditions and driver availability.

Most buses across South East Queensland, including Brisbane and Gold Coast services, will resume running to a full weekday timetable.

All train lines will also run to a full weekday timetable following days of closures and disruptions.

EARLIER @ March 11 | Public transport services have resumed on the Gold Coast after being suspended for several days because of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Trains on the Gold Coast line are operating again, however, are only running to a Sunday timetable.

Queensland Rail crews have worked around the clock to ensure rail lines across the southeast are safe, clearing more than 700kms of track in the last few days.

Limited bus services have also resumed across the Gold Coast.

However, they too are only running to a Sunday timetable.

Bus commuters are also warned to expect diversions along some routes due to road closures and debris.

Gold Coast Light Rail is running limited services every 15 minutes between Helensvale and the Gold Coast University Hospital.

But services between the hospital and Broadbeach South remain suspended.

There are no replacement bus services either for light rail customers due to a lack of availability with G:Link, apologising to customers for the inconvenience.
