A Main Beach dad has celebrated his birthday in life-changing style after landing the entire $8 million division one prize in Tuesday night’s Oz Lotto draw.
The busy father was stuck on the job and unable to answer his phone when officials first tried to deliver the life-changing news.
It wasn’t until late afternoon that he finally picked up the call, completely unaware that an $8 million fortune was waiting for him.
“Oh my god! $8 million! I’ve won $8 million?!” he exclaimed.
“It’s my birthday today! How absolutely amazing. This is mind-boggling!
“I think I need to grab a cold drink. My throat is dry!
“Well, this doesn’t happen often! What a birthday present! Someone ringing me, to tell me I’ve won $8 million on my birthday. That’s a really nice gift!
“Every Saturday, I take my wife out to dinner for a date-night, and I’m always saying, ‘Oh, they bloody didn’t ring us again!'”
He admitted the timing couldn’t have been more meaningful, revealing that the massive jackpot comes as a huge relief following recent health and family troubles.
“It’s been a tough time for my family and I. I’ve had some troubles with my health, so this has come at a good time,” he revealed.
“This is incredible. I’m just so pleased”.
Rather than breaking the news over the phone, the man decided to wait until he finished his shift to share the secret with his family.
He said he planned to stop by the bottle shop for champagne before surprising his wife with the ultimate birthday news, admitting he couldn’t wait to see the look on her face.
