A major police operation targeting the trafficking of methamphetamine across Brisbane’s inner north has resulted in 16 people being charged with more than 90 offences.

Operation Yankee Rend was launched in January and wrapped up in May following months of investigations into an alleged drug supply network operating throughout the city.

Police seized a significant haul during the operation, including 1.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, 111 grams of cocaine, a revolver handgun and more than $16,000 in alleged drug money

Among those charged is a 36-year-old Redbank Plains man who allegedly attempted to flee police and conceal a bag of methamphetamine before being arrested in March. A subsequent search of a Somerset property allegedly uncovered a revolver handgun.

The man now faces a string of charges including drug trafficking, weapons offences and possessing proceeds of crime. He remains in custody and is due to reappear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on 29 June.

Other arrests included a 38-year-old Mount Gravatt East woman and a 35-year-old Eli Waters man, both facing multiple drug-related charges.

Acting Detective Inspector Sean Webster said the operation had significantly disrupted local methamphetamine supply chains and delivered a clear message to offenders.

“The trafficking and supply of illicit drugs harms communities, families, and the health and wellbeing of individuals who use it,” he said.

“Any prospective suppliers or traffickers are being put on notice that investigators will not rest until any detected supply chains are disrupted.”
