Queensland Police have seized almost 250 illegal e-mobility devices and issued more than 1,000 fines in the first month since tough new laws came into place.
Officers on the Gold Coast alone have seized 49 non-compliant devices.
That includes a bike belonging to a 15-year-old boy who was spotted by Police riding the device through the intersections of Stanmore Rd, Paterson Rd and Warehouse Circuit in Yatala on July 18.
The boy was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
Police have issued 991 traffic infringements to riders and have also conducted 331 breath tests, charging 24 riders with drink riding offences.
They include a 18-year-old New South Wales man who blew 0.171 after being pulled over on Remembrance Drive in Surfers Paradise on July 18.
He is due to front Southport Magistrates Court later this month.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Rhys Wildman said police will continue to enforce the new e-mobility road rules, and ensure riders are doing the right thing.
“One month into Operation Yankee Surety, we’re still detecting riders using non-compliant devices, failing to wear helmets, speeding, and alarmingly, riding under the influence of alcohol,” Assistant Commissioner Wildman said.
“We thank those Queenslanders who have taken the time to understand the new rules and play their part in keeping our roads and pathways safe.
