Police have slapped more than 50 charges on Gold Coast drivers and handed out more than 100 fines following a five-day road safety blitz across the city.
The operation ran from July 15 to 20 and saw officers carry out almost 1400 roadside breath tests while also targeting dangerous driving.
A total of 119 traffic infringements were issued for offences including speeding, uninsured and unregistered driving.
A 30-year-old Mermaid Waters man was among those hit after allegedly being busted travelling at 134 km/h in an 80 zone on Nerang Broadbeach Rd on July 18.
The man was fined $1986, copped eight demerit points and had his licence suspended for six months.
Another 33 drivers were busted drink driving during the operation while one was caught drug driving.
A 42-year-old Hope Island man allegedly blew 0.16 after officers spotted him drifting between lanes on Hope Island Rd on July 16.
He has been ordered to front Southport Magistrates Court on August 6.
A 41-year-old Elanora man is facing drug and traffic offences after being clocked doing 104 km/h in a 70 zone on a motorbike on Southport Nerang Rd in Ashmore on July 18.
The motorcyclist allegedly tested positive to a roadside drug test while officers also allegedly found a small quantity of methylamphetamines and GHB in his belongings.
His mototrbike was also unregistered and uninsured.
He copped a total of $1,916 in fines for the traffic offences along with six demerit points and will front court next week on the drugs charges.
“The number of dangerous drivers detected during this operation is concerning, and highlights to us that motorists are continuing to drive recklessly and take unacceptable risks on our roads,” Acting Inspector Paul Kelly said.
“It is incredibly disappointing to see 33 drink drivers detected over this operation, disregarding not only their own safety, but the safety of others on the road.
“This kind of behaviour is not acceptable, and police will continue to take strong enforcement action against dangerous drivers, anywhere and at any time.”
