A horror crash in the Tweed has claimed the life of a male driver.
Emergency crews were called to an off-ramp in the southbound lanes at Chinderah at around 11am after a Ute left the roadway and ploughed into a tree.
The man behind the wheel was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene, but couldn’t be saved.
NSW Police say he is yet to be identified.
As of 11.45am, one lane of the M1 southbound is closed, and the entire off-ramp to Fingal Heads is closed.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
An investigation is underway, with anyone with information – including CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam vision – urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
