Another Hollywood blockbuster is being filmed on the Gold Coast in a huge coup for the city’s growing screen industry.
Legendary Pictures is returning to the Gold Coast with filming now underway on a live-action adaptation of sci-fi franchise Gundam, starring Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo.
The move is being shot at Village Roadshow Studios in Oxenford, and will inject an estimated $110 million directly into Queensland’s economy by employing more than 350 local cast and crew.
The cast also includes the likes of Jason Isaacs (The White Lotus, Harry Potter, The Death of Stalin), Jackson White (Tell Me Lies), Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool & Wolverine), and Michael Mando (Better Call Saul).
Gundam is coming to life as an original live-action adventure set in an era of war between Earth and its former space colonies.
The film follows Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo as rival maverick mech pilots who must come together in a race across the stars for humanity’s survival.
Sweeney appears to already been enjoying the Sunshine State, having attended a Machine Gun Kelly concert in Brisbane last week.
The bombshell actress joins a growing list of Hollywood celebrities in Queensland at the moment, including Kevin Costner, Jake Gylenhaal and Sarah Pidegon to shoot upcmoming click Honeymoon with Harry across Brisbane and and Whitsundays.
Queensland Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek says the state continues to reap the benefits of an investment in Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.
“We know that our production incentive ensures that Queensland remains globally competitive, with a strong pipeline of major projects delivering ongoing employment and expenditure for local communities,
“Over the last 10 years, Legendary has consistently turned to Queensland for their ambitious projects, with titles including Pacific Rim Uprising, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and four ‘Monsterverse’ features collectively contributing more than $328 million to the local economy, in addition to Gundam.”
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney says the screen agency recognises the importance of strong partnerships with industry heavyweights like Legendary Pictures.
