The heartbroken parents of murdered Gold Coast teenager Jack Beasley have vowed to fight a parole decision that would see their son’s killer walk free on the anniversary of his death.
Brett and Belinda Beasley were left reeling after discovering the Queensland Parole Board had slated the release date for December 13, exactly seven years to the day of the fatal 2019 Surfers Paradise stabbing.
Speaking out against the timing, an emotional Brett Beasley said that the family is actively working to have the release date changed.
He slammed the scheduling as insensitive, stating that forcing the family to endure the killer’s freedom on the day they mourn their 17-year-old son is an unnecessary blow.
“I’ve been speaking to the Attorney General Deb Frecklington and I’m going to see if there’s something we can actually do,” Mr Beasley told 9News.
“I hate to say this, but I’d rather he get released 24 hours before”.
The Beasleys have spent years since the tragedy successfully advocating for “Jack’s Law” to combat youth knife crime.
