Mass evacuation as fire erupts at Surfers unit block

More than 100 people have been evacuated following a fire at a unit block in Surfers Paradise.

Five fire crews were called to Trickett Street around 10pm on Wednesday after a blaze broke out in the complex’s outdoor pool area.

The entire building was evacuated onto the street while crews worked to extinguish the blaze for around an hour.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Fire investigators will return to the scene later this morning to work out exactly what sparked the inferno, though police say it’s not suspicious.
