Queensland’s interim Police Commissioner has laid out his vision for the future of the force after paying a visit to the Gold Coast.

Steve Gollschewski has used one of his first days in top job visiting the coast in a bid to soothe rising tensions between Senior officers and those on the frontline.

Tensions have been high since a popular Senior Sergeant was suspended last month over a chase involving alleged youth criminals.

Senior Sergeant Arron Ottaway was stood down after allegedly authorising officers ram a stolen car full of juveniles in Mermaid Waters to bring the chase to an end.

It sparked outrage from those on the frontline, who declared they were exhausted and fed up with the lack of support when it comes to dealing with youth crime and domestic violence.

During his visit yesterday, Gollschewski met with a number of frontline and senior officers at stations right across the city to hear their concerns face-to-face.

He’s now revealed what he wants to see change within the force, with a major focus on getting frontline officers away from constant admin and back on the road combating crime.

Mr Gollschewski is expected to fill the role until a permamant replacement is made, however he has not shied away from the fact he would like to stay on permanently.
