The State Government will have an extra pep in their step today, following a massive breakthrough in the fight against the State’s crime crisis.

New data has revealed that Queensland has recorded its largest drop in stolen car insurance claims in a decade.

According to the Insurance Council of Australia, motor theft claims plummeted by 12 per cent over the past 12 months.

The latest figures show the total number of stolen vehicle claims plunged from 6,900 in 2024 down to 6,100 in 2025, saving insurers a whopping $12 million.

ICA Chief Executive Andrew Hall has credited the dramatic turnaround to legislative action, pointing to stricter changes made to the legal system by the Crisafulli Government as the driving force behind the drop.

“The efforts that are being made in Queensland, which previously held the record for car thefts in Australia, is having an effect,” Mr Hall said.

“We’ve seen a 12 per cent drop in Queensland’s car thefts numbers, which means the changes that are being made to the legal system there are having an effect”.
