A man has been charged after crashing through a Broadbeach bus stop, narrowly missing pedestrians.
The white Ford Ranger careered through the bus stop and into a light pole on Surf Parade around 7.20pm on Friday night before coming to a stop in the middle of Victoria Park.
The driver attempted to flee the scene but was detained in a citizens’ arrest by members of the public.
The President of the Essendon Football Club, who was on the Gold Coast with the team ahead of Saturday’s clash with the Suns was among those who helped hold the man while they waited for Police.
Andrew Welsh was dining with club sponsors at a nearby restaurant when the drama unfolded.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident.
Police have since charged the 31-year-old Pacific Pines man with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, drive UIL, driving of motor vehicle without a licence, possessing dangerous drugs, possess utensils or pipes, and offence to possess S4 or S8 medicines.
He has been released on bail and will front Southport Magistrates Court on May 29.
