An 84-year-old man has now died in hospital following an alleged arson attack at a home in Hope Island.
The elderly man suffered life-threatening burns during a desperate attempt to rescue a 38-year-old man locked inside a bedroom of the Sickle Avenue property on Tuesday night.
His life support was reportedly switched off on Wednesday afternoon, making him the second casualty of the blaze.
Police investigations reveal the 38-year-old man, who also died in the inferno, is believed to have intentionally started the fire.
Detectives allege he locked himself inside a bedroom at his ex-partner’s home before igniting the flames around midnight.
The elderly victim and a 44-year-old man, who remains in hospital with burns to 40 per cent of his body, bravely tried to break into the room to save him as the fire quickly spread.
A 59-year-old woman and another 38-year-old man suffered minor injuries after leaping to safety from a second-story balcony.
Queensland Police have established a crime scene at the property as forensic teams work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy is being treated as domestic violence related.
