Local motorists are being urged to plan ahead, with major disruptions expected across the city this weekend due to the Gold Coast Marathon.

Thousands of runners are preparing to hit the pavement for the annual event, which draws massive crowds every year.

Acting Superintendent Jason Tuffley said the marathon was a major event on the city’s calendar and asked the community to be patient.

“The Gold Coast Marathon brings an influx of thousands of people to our city, and we’re committed to keeping everyone safe across the weekend,” Acting Superintendent Tuffley said.

“We ask road-users to expect lengthy delays, be mindful of changed conditions, and seek alternative travel routes where possible.

“Officers and traffic controllers will be working hard to keep things moving and minimise inconvenience to those travelling on our roads.”
