The Ethical Standards Command has launched an investigation into the death of a man during an arrest in Logan.

The 46-year-old was taken into custody after police intercepted a vehicle on Kingston Road in Waterford West around 6pm on Monday.

“Shortly after while in police custody, the man sustained a serious self-inflicted injury,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Police immediately provided first aid, however the man could not be revived and was declared deceased at the scene.

The State Coroner has now been advised, while the Ethical Standards Command is investigating.

The investigation is subject to independent oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
